10 Steinbeck, John Cannery Row
New York Viking 1945 Book Club (BCE/BOMC) Hard Cover Fair  Fair
A heavily edgeworn BCE of Steinbeck's book, blue boards with a yellowish topstain, but with a very unusual and unseen DJ. The DJ is blue with black lettering and a small riverside/city illustration on the front. Just the words Romance, Mystery Adventure, Be Well Read on the back cover. Nothing on the flaps and no indication of the publisher anywhere on the DJ. Seems this could be a trial DJ by Viking, the Book of The Month Club, or a pirated overseas version. The book itself has 181 pages. There is a stamp of the front endpaper, American Lending Library, Inc. 1769. The bookplate on the front pastedown is that of Rolland Comstock, a renown collector who was murdered in 2007. Also included with the book is an interesting letter from a well-known book dealer to Comstock, undated, probably from the 1980s about the book, discussing the theory that the book's DJ could possibly be a never before seen trial DJ. The DJ has an old waterstain on the back cover and spine.
