The DJ is unclipped, $10. The format of the book is a little smaller than the true Random House editions. This is a Taiwanese pirated edition that is very seldom seen. Beige clothe boards as opposed to the blue in the US edition. A stamp with numerous Chinese characters is opposite the title page One minor closed tear to the DJ, Presents nicely in mylar. Often overlooked with this book is the important bibliography, afterword and index, very useful for scholars and collectors. Halberstam was one of the first to challenge the war effort after working in VN for the NY Times and writing a critical book in 1963, The Making of a Quagmire. Included with the book is an audio interview with Halberstam that was recorded in 1972 just after the publication of the book. Great comments about McNamara and some surprise observations about the military. 24 minutes on CD.

This is a 25 minute taped interview by David Halberstam with "Casper" (last name unknown) recorded at about the time when his book was becoming a best seller. He discusses his study of the Kennedy men & Vietnam. Who were the few heroes in the book? How did the McCarthy era affect Vietnam? Why has the military generally approved of Halberstam's Book? Halberstam vilifies McNamara and accuses him of lying to him in an interview for the book. On the other hand he praises Gen. Matthew Ridgeway who warned Eisenhower in 1954 about getting involved in Vietnam. Maxwell Taylor on the other hand gets very low grades from the author. Scarce!
