1 Sparkes, Boyden and Moore, Samuel Taylor Hetty Green, a Woman Who Loved Money
Garden City, New York Doubleday Doran 1930 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good
This is the stated 1st, not the more common 1935 . Very Scarce! B&W illustrations throughout. Hetty Green was the famous miser, "The Witch of Wall Street" who amassed a fabulous fortune in the late 19th century, but was so miserly that she delayed treatment of her son's infected leg, for fear the doctors would charge her exorbitant fees. The son's leg would eventually have to be amputated. He was Col. Edward Howland Robinson Green. Hetty Green was from New Bedford and South Dartmouth, MA and Bellows Falls, VT. Very neatly, some has written in ink near the front inside margin of the DJ, First Edition 1930. Almost never seen in the original DJ, designed by A. B. Tobias.
